Something we haven’t even thought of?
maxiMum caught up with Natasha Badhwar, film-maker, teacher and coach. Learning her lessons frame by frame, mentored by her three children.

Who is this person behind the lens? What occupies her cranium?
You mean me? Who am I? As Chaka Khan and Whitney Houstan famously sang, 'I'm every woman, it's all in me.' I'm discovering more and more in me and learning to accept the complexities and seeming contradictions with peace. And a smile.
Social stereotypes have attempted to stunt our imaginations, but our inner creative force shall always find a way of expression. I have found that we are born to realize our potential, sometimes despite ourselves!

Love affair with words - isn't a picture worth a thousand? Your thoughts
Pictures do their work and words can be made to do theirs. Pictures come naturally to me, I am lucky about that. Words are like hyperactive naughty children I have to chase from here and there to arrange on my page. It is harder work, sometimes.
Five things you love and five you just won't
Five things I love:
The Delhi winter sun
Deadlines
Flashes of colour in neglected gardens
The sound of cooking when I finally get down to it
Email All
these things inspire me.
5 things I just don't like:
My kids, my house, my unexpected travels have pushed me out of my comfort zone. I tolerate almost everything I'd have hated earlier. No, tolerate would be the wrong word. I deal with these things:
Egg stains on my jeans
Toddlers stepping on my toes, literally
Folding mountains of laundry
Wild taxi drivers
Not being able to gaze lovingly, longingly at my beauteous husband as he sits opposite me on a train absorbed in his book.

Tell us about the babies.
We have three kids. They are wonderful, beautiful, funny and loving but still too young to find their toys, colours, socks and books on their own. We keep each other busy. And happy.

Is Feminism alive? What does it mean for young women today?
Feminism is alive, kicking, rocking. Feminism is about self-assertion, choices, breaking boundaries, shattering ceilings. Feminism is about having the freedom to discover one's own grand truths. I see it happening all around me, across generations.
