Tell us about your personal and professional journey
Personally, I think people are fascinating. Having spent almost 14 years in Human Resources and Training, people are a huge interest. It has always been a passion to see people happy, earlier it was to assist people in finding the right job, to motivate colleagues, find them doing well after a training, and, now it's finding their soulmates.
The biggest match making challenge?
I think explaining to people about 'why' I opted away from the
traditional matchmaking model based on caste, community and horoscope
etc. As an Indian, I well understand that this is such a strong
focus…..I believe it works well in its own way. But my aim is to
serve those people who do not want this traditional approach …
Funkiest things Marrygold has done for match making?
Telling clients to do something together when they meet. Instead of the usual chat over coffee, we tell our clients to find something that interests both of them and spend half day together. One of my client's asked " What should I do??" and I answered, " Take a bus ride with him, if you can survive that without complaining, you've found your mate"
Would you go through with a match you know wont work but pays you big bucks?
Not at all. We will also not accept any clients telling us, for instance, where looks is the only factor of marriage. Marrygold is a serious matchmaking organisation, not a modelling agency.
We want our clients to find true love, happiness and look forward to attending their weddings:)
Nandini Chakraborty on marriage:
Recently read somewhere, that the 2 secrets of a happy marriage
is a sense of humour and short term memory:) Laughter is a good
medicine whether it's about you, or your partner or the relationship.
Marriage needs communication. Commitment is a key ingredient
to any marriage. Two people who choose to stay married. You have
to make the choice to stick out through the rough spots.
Is there a studied market for this service? How big is it?
There have been several surveys in the matrimonial field. There is a huge potential for matrimonial services in India.
Given the nature of marriage do you have a strong disclaimer :)?
Our clients are expected to be responsible adults and know what they are doing.
We do have a strong disclaimer too!
